Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be notified when my individual return is ready to sign?
Yes. Once your tax return is finalized, you’ll receive a secure email with a link to access it. From there, you can review the return, sign Form 8879, and submit your authorization. Email notifications will come from noreply@safesendreturns.com or noreply@safesend.com. To prevent the message from going to spam or
junk, we recommend adding this address to your safe sender list.
Will I get confirmation after submitting my e-file authorization form(s)?
Yes. After signing your e-file authorization form(s), you will receive an email confirming successful submission. That email will also include a link to download a copy of your tax return for your records.
Do I need a login for SafeSend?
No login is required. All access is through secure email links and authentication using identity questions and the last four digits of your Social Security number.
Which browser should I use with SafeSend?
We recommend using Google Chrome for the best performance and user experience.
Is there a SafeSend Returns mobile app?
No, there is currently no mobile app. However, SafeSend Returns works on most modern web browsers and can be accessed via desktop, tablet, or mobile device.
What if I didn’t receive the email with my access code?
Start by checking your spam or junk folder. You can also search your inbox for noreply@safesendreturns.com. If you don’t receive the code within 20 minutes,
request another one. To avoid this in the future, add the sender email to your safe list and use Google Chrome for best results.
How can I return to my tax return later?
Save the original email with your secure link from noreply@safesendreturns.com. That link will continue to provide access if you need to return to your return or download a copy later.
What if I can’t answer the identity verification questions or answered them incorrectly?
Please call us at [Insert Your Office Number] and ask for SafeSend assistance. We’ll walk you through the next steps if manual signing is required.
Where do the identity questions come from, and what if I don’t know the answers?
The questions are knowledge-based and pulled from credit and government records (e.g., past addresses, loan history). If you can’t answer them correctly, you won’t be able to e-sign. In that case, you can print, sign, and return the form by mail or securely through Suralink.
What should I do if the access code isn’t working?
- Confirm your email was entered correctly
- Check your spam or junk folders
- Contact our office if you still can’t access your return
How do both spouses sign a joint return?
If each spouse has a separate email:
- The first spouse receives a link, completes identity verification, and signs
- Then a separate link is sent to the second spouse to complete the process
If only one spouse has an email:
- The first spouse signs, then inputs the second spouse’s email
- The second spouse receives their own link to complete signing
If a couple shares one email address:
- One spouse signs first, then reuses the same email for the second spouse to complete identity verification and signing
Note: The IRS requires that each spouse sign independently.
Will I get reminders about tax payments?
Yes. You will receive email reminders 7 days before any payment due date. You can choose to opt-in or out and manage your notification preferences.
Can I download a copy of my return?
Yes. You can download your return during or after signing. Use the Download Tax Document(s) option on the review screen or the Summary page. Your return is stored in SafeSend for up to seven years.
What happens to my original paper source documents?
We’ll return your original documents by mail once your return is complete. You’re also welcome to pick them up from our office if you prefer.
Will I need to mail anything to the IRS or state?
In some cases, yes. Items such as estimated tax vouchers or local forms may need to be printed and mailed. SafeSend will clearly indicate what needs to be done and offer electronic payment options where available.
How do I securely send my tax documents to Williams & Company?
Use our secure file transfer system, Suralink, which is linked in staff email signatures and on our website. This is the safest method for sending confidential information.
Can I send K-1s before the return is signed?
No. K-1s can only be distributed after the full return has been signed and approved.
