2026 Charitable Deduction

Beginning in 2026, you may be able to receive a tax benefit for charitable giving, even if you don’t itemize deductions.

Taxpayers who claim the standard deduction can deduct qualifying cash contributions made to eligible charitable organizations of up to:

• $1,000 for single filers
• $2,000 for married couples filing jointly

There is no income threshold or phaseout for this deduction.

Previously, most taxpayers needed to itemize deductions to receive a federal tax benefit for charitable donations. This change allows more taxpayers to benefit from supporting the causes they care about.

If charitable giving is part of your 2026 plans, be sure to keep records and receipts for your donations.
